What we test for, and what the results tell you
We run the test on site and go over the results with you before we leave. It takes about 20 minutes. Hardness is the big one. That is the dissolved calcium and magnesium in your water, measured in grains per gallon, and it is what leaves spots on your glassware and scale inside your water heater.
We also check chlorine and chloramine. Your utility adds those to keep the water safe on the way to your house. Once it arrives, they mostly just show up as taste and smell. PH matters more than most people realize. Anything below 7.0 is acidic, and acidic water causes blue-green staining on porcelain and eventually pinhole leaks in copper supply lines. If your reading comes back low, a HALO Acid Neutralizer brings it back to neutral before it does damage.
Total dissolved solids gives us one number for everything dissolved in your water. It is mainly useful as a before-and-after benchmark. If you are on a well we test for iron, sulfur, and manganese as well, since those are behind most of the staining and the rotten-egg smell. You keep a written copy of the results either way.

We will need a current well water analysis before we can spec equipment. That is not us being overly cautious. HALO requires a water quality analysis for well applications, and installing without one voids the warranty on the equipment. We will walk you through getting the sample pulled and where to send it.
