3 Common Winter HVAC Problems

The winter months are full of family gathering and traveling. During these times, many people don’t consider the care of their HVAC system. Here at Beach Air HVAC in Myrtle Beach, we’ve listed the top three most common HVAC problems that homeowners can face during winter.

Frozen Pipes

Many people think they should turn off their HVAC system before leaving for their home for a long period, but you SHOULDN’T! Turning off your system can cause ice to accumulate on the pipes which could cause them to freeze and/or burst. It’s important to keep your system on so it doesn’t get cold enough to freeze. If you’re worried about saving money on utilities while you’re gone, just turn the temperature down a few degrees but NOT off!

Clogged & Dirty Air Filters

Since these colder months cause you to keep the heat running for longer, it can cause air filters to become clogged and dirty which can reduce the effectiveness of your whole system. Many homeowners don’t realize that the reduced airflow in their homes is most-likely caused by a dirty or clogged air filter. It’s important to change the air filter at least once a month. If not, you risk letting allergens in that could make you sick.

Uneven Air Flow & Temperature

Imagine coming home from work and moving room to room only to realize that one room is cooler than the other. This is a common issue for homeowners. The lack of airflow from your HVAC system may not be the cause of this problem. Try checking for cracks and leaks around window seals and doorways to see if that’s where the air is escaping from. If the problem persists, don’t hesitate to give the crew here at Beach Air HVAC a call.

If you’re experiencing one of these HVAC issues, or any issues at all, the crew at Beach Air HVAC is standing by 24/7 to help.
