Sewer Line Repair in Myrtle Beach, SC

If your drains keep backing up or sewage is causing problems, Beach Air’s sewer line repair services can fix damaged, cracked, or broken pipes to restore proper flow and keep your plumbing running smoothly.

When a sewer line needs repair

Your sewer line is the pipe that carries waste from the house out to the city main or the septic tank. It needs a repair when it is cracked, crushed, pulled apart at a joint, full of roots, or sagging badly enough to hold waste in place.

The question that actually affects your bill is repairment or replacement. If the pipe is generally sound and one section has failed, a spot repair takes care of it. If the whole line is at the end of its lifespan, fixing one section moves the next failure a few feet down the pipe. The camera is what tells us which situation you are in.

What Makes Sewer Lines Fail

What makes sewer lines fail

Tree Roots

Roots find a leaking joint, push in, and keep growing. Given enough time they will split the pipe open from the inside. In fact, roots are the most common cause of sewer failure in established neighborhoods.

Age and Pipe Material

Clay tile, cast iron and Orangeburg all wear out. Clay gets brittle and cracks. Cast iron rusts from the inside until the bottom of the pipe is gone. Orangeburg, a tar impregnated fiber pipe used in a lot of mid century construction, flattens into an oval and collapses.

Ground Movement

Soil shifts with moisture and time. Ground movement pulls joints apart, drops one section below the next, and creates low spots that can hold standing waste. Heavy vehicles parked over a shallow line can also speed up the process.

Grease and buildup

Years of grease narrow the pipe and hold solids in place. The line turns into a trap instead of a channel, and the waste will sit in the metal pipe, speeding up the corrosion.

Signs your sewer line is damaged

  • Several fixtures backing up at once, especially the lowest drains in the house
  • Sewage smell inside the house or out in the yard
    • Slow drainage everywhere that comes right back after the line is cleared
  • Soggy ground, sinkholes or settling along the path of the line
  • A stripe of unusually green, fast-growing grass over the sewer line
  • Rodents or insects that showed up recently
  • Foundation cracks or wet slab areas where a line runs underneath

How we handle a sewer repair

  1. Inspect and locate. A camera goes down the line, giving us access to see the failure. We’ll mark its location and how deep it sits.
  2. Go over it with you. We’ll show you the footage and tell whether this is one bad section or a failing line.
  3. Quote the options in writing. Where more than one approach fits, you get the trade offs, including what each one costs and how long it should hold up.
  4. Pull permits and mark utilities. Sewer work is permitted work in our markets, and buried utilities have to be located before anyone digs. We take care of both.
  5. Do the repair. We dig where the camera told us to, replace the failed section, and tie it into sound pipe on both ends.
  6. Inspect, backfill and clean up. The repair gets verified before the trench closes, and we put the ground back.

How the repair gets done

A spot repair means digging down to the bad section, cutting it out and putting new pipe in.

It’s a direct, long-lasting fix that’s often the cheapest option when the damaged area is easy to reach.

Depending on what the camera shows and how the property is laid out, there are other ways to fix a section with less digging by working from existing access points. That option comes down to the condition of the pipe and how deep it sits. We will tell you straight whether your line is a candidate rather than selling you a method that does not fit.

What Happens to My Yard During a Sewer Line Repair?

We pin down exactly where the damage is and try to keep the mess small, because we dig where the problem is instead of opening up the whole run. Before we start, we’ll tell you exactly where we need to dig, about how wide the work area must be, and what the ground will look like when we are finished. If something has to come out to get to the pipe, we talk about it first.

FAQs

  • How long does a sewer line repair take?

A straightforward spot repair is often a one day job. Deeper lines, work under a driveway or a slab, and jobs waiting on permits or utility locates take longer. You get a realistic timeline before we start.

  • Who is responsible for the sewer line - me or the city?

In most places, the homeowner owns the lateral from the house out to the connection at the city main, so repairs on your property are yours. Once the line crosses into the public right of way, that can change. We can help you figure out where that boundary falls on your property.

  • Does homeowners insurance cover sewer line repair?

Standard policies usually exclude damage from age, wear, and roots, which covers most sewer failures.

Some carriers sell a service line endorsement that does cover it, and some utilities offer their own line protection plan. Worth reading your policy before you assume either way.

  • Can I use water during the repair?

There is usually a window where you should not run water or flush. Your technician will tell you when it starts and when you are clear.

  • Is financing available?

Sewer repairs are almost never a planned expense. Ask about financing when you call, and we will walk you through what is available.

  • Stop guessing about your sewer line

A camera inspection trades a guess for a picture. Give us a call and we will get you on the schedule.

Lukas was quite friendly and personable but got to work on the heat pump fall maintenance check right away. He took time to look in the outside area that houses the condenser, cleaned out some gunk and got pipes flowing again. We are grateful that this service could be scheduled in our limited window of time at our vacation home.
