In Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand, our winter months are a bit of a joke compared to our friends and family who live up north. We may see snow once every other year and temperatures are pretty mild. With that being said, there are still a few steps that we can take to make sure that our HVAC system not only gets us through this season and next, but also so that it is ready for the summer months. Continue reading to learn about ways to care for your HVAC system in the winter!
First off, we recommend that you search your ductwork for leaks. By sealing up these leaks, you are ensuring that your HVAC system can help keep each room in your home warm or cool. You are also conserving energy and increasing efficiency, which lowers your heating and cooling costs. That is certainly a win-win!
It’s not a Beach Air blog without bringing up your air filters! As we have said time and time again, dirty air filters make your system work harder, which increases your monthly electric bill. Reduce the amount of dust and debris circulating throughout your home by replacing your filters at least every other month in the winter.
To save energy in the winter, set your thermostat to a cooler temperature while you’re at work and at night. Set it to a desired temperature while you are lounging around.
We tend not to think about our outside unit during the winter months, so why not keep it under wraps? Buy an affordable cover, which will protect it from the outdoor elements over the next few months.
We hope that these months go by quickly so that we can all soak in the sun again! After all, that’s why we all moved to the beach, right?
